Osun State University
Are you aspiring to gain admission into Osun State University (UNIOSUN) this year? Wondering what cut-off marks you need? Confused about aggregate score calculations and what increases your chances of getting admitted? This post is your ultimate admission guide! Brought to you by The BRAINIACS-Nigeria – your trusted admission experts – we’re here to break everything down and walk you through how to secure admission into UNIOSUN successfully.
Why UNIOSUN?
Osun State University is one of Nigeria’s top-performing state universities with a strong commitment to academic excellence. The university operates on a merit-based admission system, and while not as competitive as some federal institutions, you still need to meet all key requirements to earn a spot.
General Admission Requirements into UNIOSUN
Before you’re considered for admission, here’s what you must have:
- O’Level Requirements: At least 5 credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language (compulsory for all courses). These credits must be from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB.
- JAMB UTME Requirements: Minimum JAMB score is 160 for most courses. For Medicine, Nursing, Law, and other competitive courses, a minimum of 200 is required.
UNIOSUN Screening Process & Cut-Off Mark Calculation
UNIOSUN doesn’t conduct physical post-UTME exams. Instead, they use an online screening system based on your JAMB score and O’Level grades to compute your aggregate score.
How Aggregate Score Is Calculated
UNIOSUN uses a 60:40 ratio:
- 60% from your JAMB Score
- 40% from your O’Level Results
O’Level Grading System:
- A1 = 8
- B2 = 7
- B3 = 6
- C4 = 5
- C5 = 4
- C6 = 3
Example of Aggregate Score Calculation
Let’s say a candidate scores 250 in JAMB and has B2 in all five relevant subjects:
- JAMB score: (250/400 × 60%) = 37.5
- O’Level: (B2 = 7 points; 7×5 subjects) = 35
- Total Aggregate Score = 37.5 + 35 = 72.5
This is the candidate’s cut-off mark for admission consideration.
Admission Consideration Methods at UNIOSUN
UNIOSUN typically considers candidates through three main channels:
- Merit Admission: This is the most straightforward and recommended route. You must meet or exceed the course-specific cut-off mark.
- Catchment Area Admission (For Osun State Indigenes): If you’re from Osun State, you get special consideration under the catchment policy. You still must meet the basic requirements; indigene status doesn’t mean automatic admission.
- Transfer Admission (Change of Course): Candidates who do not meet the cut-off for their desired course may be considered for other available courses. This doesn’t guarantee a spot in your preferred course and only a few candidates are offered this route.
Note for Non-Osun State Indigenes
If you are not from Osun State, focus on merit and ensure your aggregate score is as competitive as possible.
