Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a cash gift of N20 million each for the overall best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
Sanwo-Olu made the announcement on Wednesday during the university’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies, held at the LASU main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
According to a statement shared on X by the governor’s New Media aide, Jubril Gawat, the beneficiaries are Ayilara Lawal Olawale, the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, who emerged as the best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session.
Gawat said the governor, who is also the Visitor to LASU, announced a N20 million cash gift for each of the two graduates in recognition of their outstanding academic performances.
Olawale, who studied Project Management Technology, graduated with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class Honours, while Oluolamide, an Aerospace Engineering graduate, recorded an impressive 4.97 CGPA, also graduating with First Class Honours.
Speaking in a video shared alongside the announcement, Sanwo-Olu described the money as his personal donation to the two outstanding graduates.
“Ayilara Lawal Olawale and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, each one of you will earn 20 million naira each,” the governor said.
Oluolamide Gets Additional N10m Award
The governor’s announcement came just days after Oluolamide received another N10 million cash prize from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme for emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session.
This means Oluolamide has now been recognised with N30 million in cash awards from the two separate gestures.
The development further highlights the academic feat of the Aerospace Engineering graduate, who finished with a near-perfect 4.97/5.00 CGPA.
LASU Produces More Than 20,000 Graduates
Ahead of the combined convocation ceremonies, LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, announced Olawale and Oluolamide as the best graduating students for their respective academic sessions.
The university is expected to graduate more than 20,000 students across the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, including 494 First Class graduates.
Graduates Celebrate Academic Milestones
Olawale, who earned a B.Tech (Honours) in Project Management Technology, attributed his achievement to divine grace.
“Grateful beyond words to graduate as the Best Graduating Student of Lagos State University, Ojo, for the 2024/2025 Session. Every victory was by Allah’s grace. Here’s to bigger dreams, impact, and a lifetime of excellence,” he wrote on X.
Oluolamide also celebrated his achievement after receiving official Senate approval for his result.
“4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering at Lagos State University. Official Senate Approval,” he wrote.
He added: “All glory to God for His grace, wisdom, and strength every step of the way. What God cannot do does not exist!”
The recognition of the two graduates adds another highlight to LASU’s combined convocation ceremonies, celebrating exceptional academic performance and excellence among the university’s graduating students.
