Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second tenure is set to expire on July 31, 2026.
The appointment marks a significant moment in the history of the examination body, as Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, becomes the youngest individual ever appointed to lead JAMB.
Professor Aina is widely regarded as a leading expert in computer engineering, digital infrastructure, and institutional systems reform. He currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and has built a reputation for his contributions to educational technology and examination system optimisation in Nigeria.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, alongside a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service period, where he reportedly gained firsthand experience in the operations of the admissions body. Over the years, he has worked extensively with examination and educational institutions, advising on ICT systems, examination integrity, digital transition, and public-sector reforms.
With more than 15 years of professional experience, the new JAMB Registrar has consulted for major examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), as well as several state ministries of education.
He is also affiliated with several professional organisations such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
According to the Presidency, President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to leverage his expertise and innovative approach to further strengthen JAMB’s operational efficiency and sustain the reforms introduced under Professor Oloyede’s administration.
Professor Oloyede, who assumed office in 2016, is widely credited with implementing transparency-driven reforms and modernising the operations of the examination body during his tenure.
