The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has commenced its 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening exercise, attracting a total of 21,971 applicants vying for approximately 13,000 available admission slots. The screening, which began on August 28, 2025, is scheduled to run until September 4, 2025.
According to Professor Kamilu Rauf, Director of the University’s Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, the applicants comprise 20,220 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates and 1,751 Direct Entry (DE) candidates. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s figures of 15,946 UTME and 1,175 DE candidates, reflecting the growing preference for UNILORIN as a first-choice institution.
Professor Rauf attributed the surge in applications to the university’s academic excellence, uninterrupted academic calendar, and efficient administration. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to a seamless screening process, citing the readiness of technical and support staff, functional equipment, and adequate arrangements to prevent disruptions.
Screening Highlights
On the first day of the screening, 26 underage candidates participated out of the 30 expected. Professor Abdulazeez Muhammad-Lawal, Chairman of the University Admissions Committee, described the day’s proceedings as successful, commending the discipline exhibited by the candidates. He cautioned parents against accompanying their wards to examination venues, stressing that the process requires biometric verification and should remain candidate-centered.
Merit-Based Admissions
In a related development, Mr. Abdulkareem Sanni, the University Admission Officer, assured candidates that admissions are strictly merit-based. Speaking on UNILORIN 89.3 FM’s ‘Table Talk’ program, he emphasized that no candidate needs to pay or know anyone to secure admission.
