OAU Mourns Loss of Dental Surgery Student
The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) community has been thrown into mourning following the heartbreaking news of the death of one of its Dental Surgery students. According to an official announcement issued on August 13, 2025, by the Dental Students’ Association (IFUDSA), the student tragically took his own life shortly after the release of examination results. In a public notice signed by the association’s president, Adebayo Idris, the association expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing it as the departure of a promising young mind and a stark reminder of the silent mental health battles many students face.
“This loss is not just the departure of a promising young mind, but a painful reminder of the silent battles many students face,” the statement reads. “We are devastated, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and all who knew him.”
The association called on students and faculty members to reach out to one another, seek professional help when needed, and prioritize mental health as much as physical well-being. The leadership of IFUDSA also reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for improved student welfare and mental health support within the college.
As the OAU community processes this painful loss, the association encourages unity, empathy, and proactive mental health care, emphasizing that no one should ever feel alone in their struggles.
May his soul rest in peace.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please seek help. You are not alone.
