JAMB CAPS Admission Terms Explained: What Each Status Means
If you’re a candidate monitoring your admission status on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), you may come across terms like “Not Admitted,” “Admission in Progress,” or “Transfer Approval.”
For many candidates, these terms can be confusing and cause unnecessary panic. This guide explains all the common admission status terms on JAMB CAPS and what they mean—plus what actions you should take at each stage.
🔹 1. Not Admitted
When your status shows “NOT ADMITTED”, it simply means you have not yet been offered admission.
- This does not always mean rejection.
- Admissions are released in batches, so your name may still appear later.
- Your school may not have uploaded your details yet.
📌 What to do: Keep checking your CAPS regularly, especially if your school has already started releasing admission lists.
🔹 2. Admission in Progress (AIP) / Your Admission is Being Processed
If your status displays “ADMISSION IN PROGRESS” or “YOUR ADMISSION IS BEING PROCESSED”, it means:
- Your school has recommended you for admission.
- JAMB is currently reviewing and validating your details.
You are very close to being admitted.
📌 Next step: If everything checks out, your status will soon change to “CONGRATULATIONS…”
🔹 3. Admitted / Admission Offered
When you see “CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION”, it means JAMB has officially approved your admission.
📌 What to do next:
- Accept the admission if you are satisfied with the school and course.
- Reject the admission if you want to wait for another school or course.
⚠️ Note: Admission must be either accepted or rejected before JAMB finalizes it.
🔹 4. Transfer Approval
Sometimes, your school may want to move you to a different course other than the one you originally applied for. When this happens, your CAPS will show “TRANSFER APPROVAL.”
📌 Your options:
- Accept the transfer if you are okay with the new course.
- Reject the transfer if you prefer to stick to your original choice.
⚠️ However: Rejecting a transfer may reduce your chances of securing admission into that institution.
🔹 5. Accept Admission
This is the option you select when you are satisfied with the admission offered. Accepting admission officially confirms it with JAMB.
📌 How to accept admission:
- Visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre for fingerprint verification.
- Alternatively, send “ACCEPT” via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number linked to your JAMB profile.
🔹 6. Reject Admission
This option is for candidates who do not want the admission they’ve been offered.
📌 How to reject admission:
- Reject at an accredited JAMB CBT centre with fingerprint verification.
- Or send “REJECT” via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using your JAMB registration phone number.
🔹 7. Marketplace (JAMB Market Place Offer)
Sometimes, JAMB may suggest alternative schools or courses that still have admission slots. This is called the JAMB Market Place Offer.
📌 Your choice:
- Accept the offer if it suits you.
- Reject it if you prefer to wait for your chosen institution.

Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
